My students have a lot of fun with this! A play by Lorraine Hansberry which was premiered in 1958, this has been made into a movie starring Sidney Poitier in 1961 and later again in 2008 starring an all-star cast like Sean Diddy Combs, Phylicia Rashad, and Sanaa Lathan just to name a few.
The end of the lesson is to create their own ending using today’s issues. Using the character analysis that was learned through the lessons, students will utilize the characters’ traits into their own written-out script . The panel of judges determine which of the groups has more of a realistic view of its ending (a rubric will be provided) and will receive an “Oscar” and high scores for their collaborative work as well as a posted photo in the classroom or on my website.
